I am a Kuwaiti artist that has been doing art since 2017. Surrealism is something that I’ve always been drawn to. I love exploring the space between reality and dreams, which is why when I was tasked to create a piece about our culture, I wanted to do something related to the sea and the ties that we have with it.
I loved the idea of painting on pillars. It makes the artwork a part of the environment, as opposed to having it on a wall and stand out. It also helps me as an artist to learn new ways to fill up a space while still maintaining a good composition.

Subject: Culture

I choose the topic Culture and my paint is about Kuwaits ties to the sea and how it’s a big part of our culture as well as our history. I chose the Zubaidi since it’s the most identifiably Kuwaiti fish. It has a leash to represent some Kuwaitis love for taking care of and raising the fish. The hand (as subtle as it looks) is shaped like hook to represent fishing and it is tied to the leash to show how it can be a hobby, a passion or even a lifestyle for some Kuwaiti people.
